Crypto Wars: Another Blockchain?! 🙄

Old man Schwartz, David Schwartz, the tech fella over at Ripple, he put up a long one on the social media – a real thinkin’ piece, he did. Said this “crypto tent” is just swellin’ up, gettin’ bigger all the time. Seems everybody and their cousin is buildin’ their own little blockchain these days. Payments folks, stablecoin slingers…it’s a regular land grab. 😄

He figures this means folks are finally seein’ blockchains ain’t just a flash in the pan. They’re core to things now, like…well, like banks used to be, but with more computers and less common sense, maybe. 🤔

Thirteen Years in the Dust

Schwartz been talkin’ up the XRP Ledger, sayin’ it’s got a good thirteen years under its belt. Thirteen years of…well, mostly existin’. Says it’s “got real traction” and the big institutions are payin’ attention. Been “battle-tested,” he says. Battle-tested against what, exactly? Bad ideas? Low trading volume? He didn’t say. 🤷‍♂️

Now, this XRPL thing, it’s open to anyone, mostly. You can wander in, you can wander out. But it’s got a few back doors for folks who like to keep things…organized. Not like some of these other blockchains where you gotta ask permission just to breathe. That’s fancy talk for ‘some folks got more power than others’, really.

Ripple claims they don’t run the whole show with XRPL, just a little piece. But folks whisper that most of the other “independent” validators are tied to Ripple one way or another – parents, colleges, groups that owe ‘em a favor. It’s a small world, the blockchain world. A very small, and sometimes suspiciously connected world. 🧐

Seems like there’s always a dust-up about who’s really calling the shots – decentralization versus centralization, they call it. Sounds fancy, but it boils down to who holds the strings.

Circle Gets its Dander Up

This all comes on the heels of Circle, Ripple’s…let’s call ‘em competitors, gettin’ all riled up and announcin’ their own blockchain, “Ark”. Seems everyone needs their own patch of digital dirt. 🤠

Ark is supposed to help their stablecoin business. Boost it, give it some oomph. It’s gonna talk the same language as those EVM things, whatever them are. They’re doin’ some testin’ in private, which means if it breaks, nobody’ll see it. Smart. 🤫
