Ah, the wonders of modern outrage! The untimely passing of young Celeste Rivas Hernandez has led to a bizarre, and perhaps equally tragic, phenomenon in the world of meme coins. Yes, you read that right – cryptocurrency tokens in her name have somehow amassed market caps of over $1 million. Surely, this is what the crypto community was hoping for in the wake of such a tragic loss.
As the investigation drags on and police, as always, take their sweet time deciding whether to label this incident a homicide or something more nebulous, the internet is far ahead. Welcome to the spectacle of “Justice for Celeste” tokens. Because if there’s one thing we love more than justice, it’s making a quick buck, right?
Celeste Rivas Hernandez Meme Coins
Crypto crimes are in full swing these days, but let’s not forget that sometimes-just sometimes-the most unsavory of incidents can launch an entire meme coin craze. The tragic passing of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez has certainly done just that.
Justice for Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
D4vd is 20 years old, that means he started dating her when he was 17 and she was 12. He knew that was wrong. Anyone who knew about their relationship knew it was wrong.
This is femicide. She deserved so much better from this world 😭💔💔💔

Last week, Rivas Hernandez’s body was found in the trunk of a Tesla belonging to D4vd, the singer allegedly involved in her twisted story. Screenshots from social media suggest that D4vd had been grooming Celeste since she was 12, which led to a veritable storm of outrage.
And of course, in true crypto fashion, the reaction was swift. The meme coins rolled in, flooding decentralized exchanges at the speed of light.
Some of these “Justice for Celeste” coins reached the dizzying heights of a $1 million market cap. To be fair, it’s still unclear if these projects will turn out to be a rug pull (spoiler: they probably will), but hey, there’s always room for more unscrupulous activity in the crypto world, right?
Memeifying The Dead
And you thought the crypto world couldn’t get any more absurd. If you think this is bad, just wait-this kind of thing is old news in the realm of digital currencies. Not too long ago, Pump.fun was forced to shut down livestreaming after a user, “MistaFuccYou,” livestreamed his own suicide. In true crypto fashion, this sparked a wave of meme coins in his memory. Because what else do you do when someone dies in front of an audience?
Sadly, the Web3 sector has only become more callous since then. Petty crimes, shady dealings, and allegations of major corruption mix together like a cocktail of despair. The current ethos? “Crime is legal now”-so why not profit off a teenager’s tragic death?
At least these meme coins are pretending to honor Celeste. At this point, it’s almost heartwarming, in a twisted way. But as the aims of meme coins continue to degrade, one has to wonder: What happens when such behavior becomes the norm? Maybe the crypto community should take a good, hard look at itself… unless, of course, we all just keep clicking “buy.”
