It was thus, in the waning days of the year, that the American President, a man of renowned… decisiveness, deigned to offer commentary on the matter of the Federal Reserve’s leadership. One might have expected pronouncements of grand strategy, profound economic insight. Instead, we were treated to a display of vague admiration, a gentle pat on the back for Mr. Chris Waller, a man currently aspiring to a most influential position. 🙄
“I think he’s great,” the President declared, as if announcing the discovery of a particularly pleasing sunset. “I mean, he’s been a man who’s been there a long time.” Indeed. Time passes for us all, even for those who seek to govern the nation’s finances. “Somebody that I was very involved with,” he continued, a statement pregnant with implication, yet devoid of actual information, “and sense of his career, and he’s a fantastic man.” A fantastic man! One wonders what qualifies as merely ‘good’ in this administration.
It appears Mr. Waller, in a recent speech – delivered, of all places, at a ‘Blockchain Symposium’ (a gathering one pictures filled with earnest young men discussing the future whilst sipping lukewarm coffee) – suggested that these newfangled ‘crypto’ payments need not cause undue alarm. “Nothing to be afraid of,” he proclaimed. One suspects the bankers of the old guard are currently clutching their pearls. 💎
The President Remains Noncommittal, As is His Wont
The odds, according to a particularly modern oracle called ‘Polymarket’ (a decidedly perplexing name, hinting at some form of state-sponsored poultry farming, perhaps?), currently place Mr. Waller as a contender, though not the most favoured. Mr. Hassett, a seemingly more agreeable soul, leads the pack, followed by Mr. Warsh, a name which rolls rather impressively off the tongue. It is, one gathers, a competition of… personalities, rather than demonstrable expertise.

The President, in a masterful display of political ambiguity, stated that all those on the shortlist “would be a good choice, honestly.” A sentiment that reveals, naturally, absolutely nothing. When pressed on the matter of Ms. Bowman, another potential candidate, he merely offered that she was a “fantastic person.” Ah, the power of adjectives! It is a curious thing, this art of governance, isn’t it? 🤔
The announcement, we are assured, will arrive “over the next couple of weeks,” or perhaps before the year’s end, or, well, “pretty soon.” Time, as always, will tell. Though one suspects it will tell at the President’s convenience, and not a moment before.
The Crypto Folk Watch With Bated Breath
And so, the ‘crypto industry’ – a designation which conjures images of shadowy figures exchanging digital tokens in dimly lit rooms – follows these developments with intense interest. For the fate of their peculiar enterprise appears inextricably linked to the pronouncements of the Federal Reserve, and its control over the mysterious force known as ‘interest rates.’
Lowered rates, it seems, encourage investors to gamble on these digital trinkets, while higher rates prompt a more sensible course of action. A truth so simple, yet so profoundly disregarded by those captivated by the allure of easy riches. It is a human folly, this endless pursuit of gain, and one that repeats itself throughout the ages. 🤷
