So, Akave, they’ve launched this decentralized storage network called Akave Cloud on some Avalanche Layer 1 blockchain. 🤷♂️ Like, who needs centralized systems when you can have a decentralized AI, decentralized physical infrastructure, and compliance-focused SaaS? Not me, but hey, more power to them.
Redefining Cloud Storage with Onchain Logic? More Like Redefining My Patience
Akave, the decentralized storage network, has apparently deployed its decentralized data layer on a dedicated Avalanche Layer 1 (L1) blockchain. This platform, known as Akave Cloud, is supposedly designed to meet the “demanding requirements” of decentralized AI, Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN), and compliance-focused SaaS. 🤔
Akave Cloud is challenging the traditional cloud services model. Instead of using centralized systems, they’re anchoring all storage logic — uploads, reads, and permissions — directly to smart contracts. Every interaction is recorded on-chain, providing tamper-proof audit trails and ensuring full data sovereignty. But, you know, who cares about performance or usability, right? 🙃
Stefaan Vervaet, co-founder and CEO of Akave, said, “What drew us to Avalanche was more than just the technology — it was the alignment. Their ecosystem shares our focus on enterprise-grade infrastructure.” Like, I’m sure they’re just thrilled to be aligned with a bunch of decentralized tech nerds. 🙄
Vervaet also told TopMob that by introducing a decentralized storage and data layer with verifiable audit trails, Akave “creates data gravity that attracts DePIN networks, agentic AI pipelines, and data-intensive applications.” Because, you know, who doesn’t want to be gravitated towards more data? 🚀
According to a statement, Akave Cloud is already gaining traction, with teams like Intuizi, The Defiant, and Heurist.ai leveraging its capabilities. Notably, it’s the first decentralized storage system to integrate with Snowflake, which is apparently a big deal. 🎉
Running on its dedicated Avalanche L1, Akave Cloud taps into Avalanche’s core strengths, including EVM compatibility, sub-second finality, and customizable chain logic. These features are crucial for real-time, data-intensive applications, ensuring robust and efficient operation. Or so they say. 🤷♂️
Akave also provides a hosted deployment option, which can supposedly slash infrastructure overhead and deliver up to 80% cost savings compared to traditional cloud providers. All while maintaining the benefits of on-chain transparency and control. Because, you know, who doesn’t love saving money and being transparent? 💰🔍
Meanwhile, Justin Fiddes, a senior ecosystem growth associate at Ava Labs, characterized Akave as a strategic win for Avalanche because “it is the first decentralized storage DePIN network to launch as a standalone Avalanche L1.” Explaining why collaboration with Avalanche is important for Akave, Fiddes said:
Akave is well positioned to capture a significant amount of storage capacity at a time where enterprises are actively looking to cut their cloud spend to increase their bottom line.
He added that Akave has developed an S3-compatible storage solution that is a verified Data Lake partner of Snowflake. This solution operates on decentralized, global storage, offering high redundancy and service-level agreements comparable to those provided by Hyperscale cloud services. Because, you know, why not? 🤷♂️
