Oh, the drama! Luke Dashjr, that rather clever chap behind the Knots Bitcoin software-yes, *software*, terribly important-appears to be toying with the notion of a hard fork. A hard fork, darling! Apparently, to âsaveâ Bitcoin from itself. One does wonder if a good stiff drink and a lie-down wouldnât be more efficacious. đ¸
Knots Dev Luke Dashjr Allegedly Involved in Plan to âSave Bitcoinâ With Hard Fork
The fuss over these OP_RETURN things – honestly, the names they come up with! – has escalated, you see. Itâs all frightfully complicated, involving people who want to stuff all sorts of ephemera onto the Bitcoin blockchain, and others who rather think it should stick to, well, *money*. And now, it seems, Mr. Dashjr, principal architect of Knots (a rather dashing name for software, donât you think?), is proposing a solution. A solution involvingâŚa hard fork. To âsaveâ Bitcoin. Naturally.
These intensely private messages-revealed to The Rage, rather a sensational title, wouldn’t you agree?-reveal a plot to allow a select coterie of individuals to alter âpotentially illegalâ data on the Bitcoin blockchain. Said data is to be replaced with theseâŚZero-Knowledge Proofs. ZKPs. It sounds positively Bond villain-esque, doesnât it? Establishing a clear path toward, shall we say, âeditorial control.â đ§
He admits it’s rather drastic, naturally, but considers it preferable to the altogether unpleasant alternative of Bitcoinâs demise. âI mean, right now the only options would be Bitcoin dies or we have to trust someone⌠ZKP is strictly better,â he proclaims with the gravity of a Shakespearean actor. One suspects a touch of hyperbole.
He assures us itâs merely a technicality, this hard fork, hidden away and inconsequential, therefore âsafe.â One hopes his assessment is entirely accurate. These digital shenanigans are so frightfully easy to miscalculate. đ¤Ś
And who should weigh in but Adam Back, the renowned cryptographer! He confirms knowledge of similar machinations, complaining of corporate counsel attempting to âmoderate contentâ. Apparently, Dashjr wants to âjump straight to the censorship tech.â Really! The audacity.
Dashjr, after being rather pointedly confronted and interrogated by various Bitcoin enthusiasts (Pierre Rochard among them), hasn’t exactly denied the authenticity of these messages. Back, for his part, insists they are, indeed, genuine. One does hope everyone has their affairs in order. It’s all terribly unsettling.
