Right, so Nexo – those crypto people, you know, the ones explaining blockchain at dinner parties – have decided golf needs… more money. Apparently, just being ridiculously good at hitting a tiny ball really, really far isn’t enough anymore. They’ve teamed up with the DP World Tour to award anyone who manages to break a course record. Groundbreaking. 🙄

The Rules (Because There Are Always Rules)

The digital asset thingamajig, Nexo, is basically throwing money at golfers who can master the art of… not taking too long. It’s called the “Course Record Presented by Nexo” – which sounds like a slightly pretentious award show. It’s a rolling prize, meaning if no one breaks the record, the pot just keeps getting bigger. Like a really slow, stressful lottery. The whole shebang kicks off at the Nexo Championship on August 7th, at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen. Because, of course it is.

The lucky golfer who manages to set a record will initially snag $10,000. But hold on, it gets better. They’ll also get $50,000 in NEXO Tokens. I’m assuming that’s like golf points but… digital? Honestly, my brain hurts. 🤯

And if nobody breaks a record at the Championship? Well, the pot grows by $10,000 for the next tournament. Basically, they’re betting on golfers getting desperate. Ten records fell in 2024, and six already this year. Six! Clearly, someone’s been practicing during all those rain delays. ☔️

“The Course Record marks the first recurring prize of its kind in golf,” said Antoni Trenchev, Co-founder of Nexo, probably while stroking a very expensive beard. “It combines performance-driven incentives with the reach and upward potential of digital assets.” Translation: “We have money to burn.”

Ben Cowen, Chief Tournament and Operations Officer of the DP World Tour, chimed in with:

“We’re always looking for new ways to celebrate and reward the incredible talent on the Tour. The Course Record Presented by Nexo does just that-and adds excitement for fans as players push harder to claim the prize.” Basically, drama. They *love* drama.🤫

Apparently, the rules are a bit fussy. It has to be a full tournament (36 holes MINIMUM, even if it’s raining cats and dogs), and no using “preferred lies.” Honestly, who even *uses* preferred lies? It’s golf, not artistic license.🎨

The whole thing began with a fancy gala hosted by the Trump family 🙄 (naturally). Apparently, this little venture is going to give Scotland’s golf tourism a boost. Which, you know, good for Scotland. 💰
