So, this XRPL Labs guy, Denis Angell, tweets out some GitHub doc about an XRP Ledger sidechain for options trading, and he’s all like, “Something big.” Big? Really? My dry cleaning bill is big. But hey, who am I to judge? I once thought a parking spot was a life achievement.
Then this XRP fan, WrathofKahneman, chimes in with an X post, breaking it down like he’s explaining why my soup is too salty. Here’s the gist: “It’s an XRPL sidechain for options, with leverage and a bridge back to XRPL. Oh, and some passkey stuff I don’t get.” Classic. Nobody gets the passkey stuff. Not even the passkey.
What is it? Oh, just a proposal for an XRPL sidechain that’s purpose-built for options, except focused on options (and leverage!) with a bridge back to #XRPL and some passkey stuff beyond my ken. 🙂 Compared to Hyperliquid for options.

Options, huh? Powerful financial instrument, they say. In crypto, it’s all Deribit this, centralized exchange that. On-chain options? Nascent. High demand? Sure, if you’re an institutional trader or someone who still uses the word “synergy.”
Why an options sidechain? Because why not?
Apparently, this sidechain would be the “native derivatives layer” for XRP Ledger. Inspired by Hyperliquid, which proved a purpose-built chain can dominate DeFi derivatives. Great. Another thing to dominate. Like my neighbor’s dog dominating my lawn.

Crypto derivatives? Multi-trillion-dollar market. On-chain? Dominated by centralized exchanges and chains not built for derivatives. Hyperliquid changed the game with an L1 and native order book. Billions in volume. Mindshare of serious traders. XRP Ledger? Still figuring out if it’s a ledger or a ledger-adjacent concept.
Hence, this sidechain proposal. Because what’s one more chain in a world already chained to chaos?

So, this sidechain brings American-style options, 200x leveraged margin trading, and a trustless cross-chain bridge. Secured by the same validators that secure XRPL. Hyperliquid did perpetual futures on-chain. This does options. Groundbreaking. Or is it? I mean, my cousin once did a groundbreaking ceremony for a birdhouse.
Developers love XRP Ledger’s federal validator model. Trusted committee design. Deep liquidity in XRP. Growing ecosystem of tokenized assets. A derivatives layer to capture value. Sounds like a plan. Or a scheme. Or a really long episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Oh, and it’s got native webAuthn/FIDO2 passkey support. Sign transactions with face ID, touch ID, or hardware keys. Authentication standard used by banks. Fancy. My bank still uses a rubber stamp and a guy named Stan.
Three interlocking systems: trustless bridge, native options and margin trading, and passkey authentication. All at the protocol level. Impressive. Or overwhelming. Depends on whether you’re a developer or someone who still thinks “cloud” is just a thing in the sky.
